Outstanding - Dallas and LeTeesha's Boston Wedding at the Doubletree Hotel
In May, I captured two beautiful woman as they were married with a ceremony and reception at the Doubletree Suites in Boston, MA.
I had met LeTeesha from another very memorable wedding I shot when I was just getting my wedding biz up and running, the wedding of Renee and Daniece. When LeTeesha contacted me about capturing her wedding to the lovely Dallas, I jumped for joy! I met the couple for drinks and a killer meal at the Russell House Tavern and we just talked and talked and talked. LeTeesha is a Philly girl like me, so we waxed poetic about that forever, and I got to know and love Dallas as well. Dallas was truly LeTeesha’s other half, more of a "let me take it all in and absorb the moment” kind of lady. After dinner, we said our goodbyes and then I waited, hoping they would hire me for their wedding. Then I got the call. Well, the email. They were in and so was I.
Before the big day, I was lucky enough to hang out with the couple and their planner, Beth Rolfe of Something Borrowed Something New events. We met at the venue and I was invited to their tasting, which was great because we got to eat Philly Cheese-steaks! Beth and I really hit it off and it was great to just mosey around the space and see how stuff was going to flow prior to their wedding day.
On the actual wedding day, my trusty second shooter, Vanessa Walsh, and I took turns with each bride capturing them getting ready. When it was time for the actual ceremony to start, LeTeesha was teary and filled with joy even before Dallas walked down the isle. The best part was when the wedding party began to walk down the isle, Nora from DJour Entertainment played "Outstanding" by the Gap Band!!!! Everyone was in musical heaven, and each member of the wedding party danced their way down the isle. Best part about that song is that it's long, so LeTeesha really got to strut her stuff in her seersucker suit and orange Converse sneakers. Dallas was led down the isle by her father and when she met LeTeesha to say her vows, LeTeesha's grandmother was beaming from ear to ear. The Gap Band was still playing so the couple had a little dance together at the altar. Beth thought of everything and provided fans, sunglasses and scarves for all the guests to enjoy since the ceremony was up on the roof.
Their vows were full of emotion as all their friends and family joined in the ceremony. Pam and Michelle were joint officiants and kept the ceremony heartfelt and joyous. Before the ladies exchanged rings, they were passed around to every guest so that each person could bless the rings. Dallas and LeTeesha prepared their own vows and there was not a dry eye on that roof deck by the time the couple said I do.
After the ceremony, the wedding party basically snagged a shuttle bus from the hotel and we disappeared onto Memorial drive to take some formals along the Charles river.
Then everyone was announced into the reception where the party was going strong. The dancing went on and on until the break of dawn. Well, not really, because it was a day wedding, but let me tell you....everyone and I mean everyone shook their booty at this daytime event. (that's not usually the norm for day weddings, but DJ Nora kept the music flowing and had the floor packed.) Beth did a great job with all the decor, joining Dallas's Southern roots and style with LeTeesha's Philly flare.
Many of my friends and clients know how special same sex weddings are to me. I have been lucky enough to have two featured weddings in the book, The New Art of Capturing Love. I believe in marriage equality for all and when I am hired to photograph a same sex wedding, I feel like I am becoming more than just a wedding photographer. I feel like I am becoming a historian. I am actually documenting real history in this country. Or in Dallas and LeTeesha's case HERSTORY. Thanks ladies. I love you both. I can't tell you what an honor it was to witness and be a part of your journey.
