The Secret Garden - Lane and Brent's Tower Hill Wedding
On July 23, Lane and Brent were married with a ceremony and reception at the Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in Boylston, MA.
Lane and Brent went to the same high school and knew of each other but never really talked until they both started worked together. (Lane's friend actually convinced the manager to hire Brent when he applied because Lane thought he was cute.) They bonded over rock climbing outings and after work coffee shop chats—which quickly turned to romance and a long term relationship. They have been together since 2001 and definitely "took their sweet time!"
Brent proposed on a snowmobile ride in the middle of the woods late, late at night in backwoods Maine near Lane's family's cabin. A ways into the ride, he pretended that there was something wrong with the snowmobile. He told Lane that he had driven over a large branch that got stuck under the sled so he needed her to help lift it off the branch. They both got off to snowmobile, and Lane was too busy lifting the heavy sled and panicking that they were going to be stuck in the woods overnight to notice that he was down on one knee. Lane turned around to yell at him to hurry up because the snowmobile was heavy—and then she saw him . . . and a beautiful ring! Now that spot in the woods is their favorite picnic location.
When Lane first reached out to me, she told me that her favorite movie was The Fifth Element, which is the one film that when it's on TV, I simply can't change the channel. So I knew we were a fit—not only because I love The Fifth Element as much as she does but because Brent's favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption, just like my husband. After we met, but before I was officially their photographer, I would email Lane and tell her that The Fifth Element was on TV. I couldn't wait for their wedding.
Both Lane and Brent got ready at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester. So while I stayed with Lane and her family and bridesmaids, my second shooter, Vanessa Walsh, headed down to Brent and the guys. After we did all the getting ready photos, the entire wedding party headed on to a party bus. The idea was for Lane and Brent to do their first look at The Old Stone Church in Boylston. The tricky part was that Lane AND Brent were on the same bus to get there! How the hell were we going to pull off a first look without them seeing one another on the bus? Then I had a brilliant idea - I brought my TempurPedic sleep mask for Brent to wear for the entire bus ride! It worked like a charm! After their first look, we spent lots of time at the old church playing around. Lane brought a veil as a prop, and I think Brent liked that thing more than she did.
After the Old Church, we drove to Tower Hill for more formals all over that amazing venue. From there, it was ceremony time and the reception soon after. I love that they had gold streamers that everyone threw at them after they were announced as husband and wife. Keeping with the movie theme, I captured their rings shots on Lane's iPad case, which was made to look like the book from the movie The Never Ending Story. It was perfect!
Lane and Brent, your day was seriously amazing! I think we need to catch up soon and watch a movie . . . maybe The Fifth Element followed by The Shawshank Redemption?
