Practice Makes Perfect - Kaitlyn and Jon's ICA Engagement Session
I have made a decision that from now on, I'm going to call the dreaded engagement session a "Practice" session. Now, I don't dread them but I gotta be honest, when you mention engagement session to the groom to be, they get that glazed look in their eyes. And I feel for them. I do. I think that the word "engagement session" is a little dated.
The truth is, when you think about it, it REALLY IS a practice session for both me and the couple. We are really getting to know one another. It helps me to figure out who is a blinker, what angles are best for the subject, how comfortable they are with PDA (if at all). Do I need a long lens to give the couple privacy or are they totally fine with me walking right up to them and getting all up in their face. Usually it's both. First they are shy and all like..."So what are we supposed to do now?" They are nervous and so am I. But by the end, everything is gravy and it always goes smooth. And then on their wedding day I can say to the couple "Hey remember our practice session? Well it's the same thing but now you are in super expensive clothes". And THAT is how I pitched my practice session to Jon and Kaitlyn.
On October 5, I went to Jon and Kaitlyn's Southie apartment and we just hung out there for a while and talked. I assured them I don't just start out snapping away. We were both hungry and I thought they could use a little liquid courage, so off to brunch we went. From there we headed over to the financial district and started taking more photos because I could tell they were getting super comfortable around me.
We decided to try one more location and so we headed over to the ICA to play on their staircase, but of course since the three of use found out we share a mutual love for all things fabulous when it comes to clothes, we had to make a pit stop at Louis Boston and drool a bit. Walking around and watching Kaitlyn and Jon pick out things they loved told me so much about their style. Jon has this slight watch obsession, like my husband, which totally cracked me up. Kaitlyn has the most classic lady like style...I'm dying to see her wedding dress. It was an amazing day. They are fantastic and their wedding is going to be off the chain...I just know it.
Thank you Kaitlyn and Jon, I can't wait to see what you have planned for your wedding!
