Fashion, Turn to the Left - Editorial time with Model Club Inc
Still chipping away at trying to break into the fashion & editorial side of photography here in Boston. It's so tough. Actually I take that back. There is only one part that's been a challenge - and that's wardrobe styling. I mean seriously! Boston - make that most of New England - is way behind when it comes to a funky fresh vibe. Many people here wouldn't know what couture was if it slapped them upside the friggin' head. And since I don't have access to it at the present time, I have been faced with doing it myself. At least for this shoot. I have developed a really great relationship with a Boston modeling agency Model Club Inc. When I made the decision to try and do fashion work on the side, I wrote every agency here in Boston. Only one responded & believed in me. MCI had just started their fashion division and they had a handful of girls that needed photos. Something different. Something ....well I like to think … like me.
I received a call from Xavi, the fabulous guy who ran their fashion division and said he had a girl that needed photos pronto! She had walked in shows for them but no photos. So I ran to the mall, went into Urban Oufitters and found this amazing pink furry coat. I then ran home and pulled out iron on transfer paper and made an Eric B and Rakim iron on and created a fun tshirt. My friend Debbie, who is a stylist for Stella and Dot, gave me lots of fun jewelry to play with, and while I may be short, my jeans fit the model, Emily, except in the length, which is what I wanted to happen. I gave my hair diva, Emily Reale and make up god, Brandon Ward a call. They were on board for the day, thank god.
We met in the studio where my team and Emily were ready to go. When I met her, we chatted and I tried to make her feel at ease. I knew she was nervous. I told her "Listen, your job is to NOT try and seduce me. I want you doing things, having fun. Laughter is way more sexy to me than the typical seduction crap. I'm not some guy photographer that wants to fuck you. I want to photograph you, that's all." She laughed and things moved smoothly the rest of the day. We all laughed...a lot!
Here are some samples of that shoot. I can’t wait for the better weather, I have lots of great stuff in store for the girls at Model Club Inc!
