Super Bass Bride - Lizzie and Robert's Cambridge Boat Club Wedding
Lizzie and Robert were married on August 1st, with a ceremony and reception at the Cambridge Boat Club.
Lizzie and Robert both went to the same high school and had a few of the same friends, but they were on what you would call "different paths" and so never got together.
After high school, Robbie decided to join the Marines and was eventually stationed in Camp Pendleton in California. While he was home on leave in the summer of 2007, he ran into Lizzie at a local bar with a couple of her friends who were also some of his childhood friends. From then on, the entire time that Robbie was home, their friends were scheming to get them together. Robbie left after a few days, he and Lizzie remained in touch, and the relationship grew from there. They talked constantly, and Lizzie visited him as much as she could. Robbie would often see her when he returned on leave, and they eventually found themselves in love (although Lizzie was pretty sure that was right from the start).
They love spending time together, even if it is doing nothing, because they spent 3 years being in a long-distance relationship. They especially love sitting on the couch and cuddling with their cats while talking about future plans. It makes them happy and excited for a future together. (Lizzie swears they aren't "crazy cat people," but they do love their cats for sure.)
Lizzie told me the story of their engagement:
I had a bad day at work, so we were in PJs early and relaxing together on the couch with take out. Robbie got up, looking around our apartment for something, and I was clueless. He claims he was initially looking for something real . . . and then decided now was as good a time as any. He put the ring box (he had hidden it in a random closet in our apartment for over a week) in his back pocket, and as he attempted to get down on one knee . . . the abnormally large box caused his entire back pocket area and side seam of his pants to split. He immediately aborted the mission and just sat on the couch next to me. I was not paying attention at all, so I missed this.
He sat staring straight ahead for a minute and then said, "I ripped my pants!" After I asked what he was talking about, he just repeated, "I ripped my pants!" He then confessed that he had ripped them while attempting to give me . . . "this," and he pulled out the ginormous ring box (which I thought had to be other jewelry, because it didn't look like a ring box) He opened it, and it had an LED light on a ring (which lead me to believe it was fake and this was a cruel joke) . . . and then he asked me to marry him. We spent quite a bit of time laughing after that.
I have to say that when Lizzie and I first Skyped, almost 2 years prior to their wedding day, we talked for almost an hour. I knew we were a perfect fit when I was telling her about my son and how much he loves trains. When she told me that Robbie actually worked for the railroad and secretly watched train videos on YouTube like my son Robert, I knew there was no way I was not shooting this wedding!
On the day of the wedding, Vanessa and I met with Lizzie and Robert at the Hyatt in Cambridge on the Charles River to capture the couple getting ready. They opted for a first look before formals, and I thought we could maybe aim for something different. So, we shot in and around the pool, which turned out to be a HUGE success. I loved when, during their formals in the pool, a lap swimmer photobombed their portrait.
After their first look, we took the couple and their families out to the Charles River for portraits. Then, it was off to the Cambridge Boat Club to get married and dance the night away.
After Lizzie danced with her father, she opted for a mother/daughter dance, and we got some great photos of that, too. And even though Lizzie and Robert had a traditional first dance, NOTHING beats when Lizzie grabbed the mic from the DJ and sang every word from Nicki Minaj's famous song "Super Bass".
Lizzie and Robbie, what an epic day and night, huh? Between all the insane dancing and singing, I think we need to do that again next year, because it was way too much fun not to relive! Thank you so much for including me in your epic day.
